Liberal, Kansas, Crossroads of Commerce, is strategically situated at the intersection of US 54 and US 83 highways. US 83 is the North/South corridor connecting Canada to Mexico in the United States with the same highway number designated throughout while being the only NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) trade route. US 54 highway has been designated by the Federal Highway Administration as being the only East/West high priority transportation corridor.

The mission of the Joint Economic Development Council of Liberal/Seward County is to provide leadership for the planned economic growth and development of the community.

Utilities

Gas Service: Aquila provides gas service to local customers. Gas service may be arranged by calling 1-800-303-0752 anytime, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  In addition to providing gas service, Aquila offers a Service Guard appliance repair program. For information about gas utility service hookup and deposits, call 1-800-303-0752. For emergencies, call 1-800-303-0357.   The local customer service office, located at 1600 General Welch Boulevard in the Airport Industrial Park, is open Monday through Friday to provide assistance with your existing account.  No payments are accepted locally and to set up or discontinue service, please call 1-800-303-0752. Electric Service: Southern Pioneer Electric provides electric service to local customers. Customers may set up electric service by stopping by the customer service center located at 1490 General Welch Boulevard in the Airport Industrial Park, or by calling (620) 624-7433 locally or toll free at 1-800-670-4381. Service outages can be reported by calling toll free: 1-866-668-8800.
