HISTORY
The idea for the Mid-America
Air Museum was formed in 1986 during the 40th anniversary reunion
of Liberal Army Airfield veterans. The Mid-America Air Museum
Foundation established it at the current location--a former Beechcraft
plant--in 1988. Since then it has grown from a small grouping
of aircraft to the incredible collection it is now. This was largely
thanks to a donation in 1997 of 56 planes from retired Air Force
Lieutenant Colonel Tom A.Thomas, Jr., of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
The City of Liberal has operated the museum since 1997. Today,
MAAM is continuing to expand, adding to its collection and facilities.
